Winter Conference Kicks Off

On Thursday, February 5th, fifty-five community college instructors and administrators will meet at our WestEd Oakland office for the first day of our annual Winter Conference. Many of these participants are part of the 2014-15 cohort of our Leadership Community of Practice which began last summer with four days of intensive in-person professional development. Since then, these participants have been meeting online monthly to share their experiences as they work through a comprehensive set of training of trainer materials to prepare for and deliver Reading Apprenticeship professional development for campus faculty members. The Winter Conference is a chance for them to reconnect with their peers in person and dive deeply into new material.

Also joining us this year are representatives from our 13 California campus teams who are a part of the newly formed Reading Apprenticeship Community College STEM Network (RACCSN). Some of the representatives are experienced Reading Apprenticeship instructors while others are just beginning their work with us. The Winter Conference marks the first event for the RACCSN teams. We are excited to bring these two groups together and are looking forward to the opportunities for learning, connections and collaborations these two days will bring.
