Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) the Focus of WestEd Board Forum

Ever since Vygotsky, educators have been paying attention to the role of social relationships in learning. More recently, Carol Dweck, introduced the term “mindsets” to alert educators to the fact that the brain is malleable well beyond childhood. Together, these ideas animate a new discussion of how to help all students succeed. On April 23, at their annual forum, WestEd’s Board of Directors will hear how the agency’s leading programs incorporate SEL in their work with infants, children, and adults. Cynthia Greenleaf will represent the work of the Strategic Literacy Initiative. Other speakers include Stanford professor Carol Dweck, President of CASEL Roger Weissberg, and WestEd program directors J. Ronald Lally, Aída Walqui, and Gregory Austin.
