Reading Apprenticeship SEED Grant

  • Grant-funded professional development for middle school teachers

Reading Apprenticeship SEED Grant is funded by a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Our goal is to improve teacher effectiveness and student learning at the secondary level. We do this by providing cross-disciplinary Reading Apprenticeship professional learning to groups of 25 to 40 teachers. School-based teams of teachers from multiple subject areas will participate in five days of face-to-face learning, followed by facilitated collaboration and learning time for teachers in small, online professional learning communities.

  • There is no curriculum to purchase – Reading Apprenticeship focuses on instruction and can be used in every secondary subject area. All PD materials are included.
  • Teacher incentives and stipends are available for research study participants

Who Should Participate

  • Participating school teams of four or more teachers who teach middle or high school
  • School teams must include at least one science teacher (two are preferred)
  • Any teacher who independently teaches at least one class is eligible to participate.

Expectations

  • Teachers commit to attending all 5 days of in-person training and 1 hour of month of online learning
  • Teachers commit to meeting once a month at your school with colleagues
  • Teachers implement Reading Apprenticeship strategies and routines in their classrooms
