Deepening Reading Apprenticeship Classroom Practice

Professional learning

This two-day institute is for middle and high school teachers who have already participated in three days of Reading Apprenticeship professional learning and had time to practice Reading Apprenticeship strategies and routines in their classroom. Participants must bring a class set of student “Talking to the Text” work.

What You Learn

Participants in this institute will deepen their ability to support students’ reading comprehension, collaboration skills, and stamina by learning how to:

  • Deepen metacognitive conversation in your classroom
  • Use varied texts and supports to reach content learning goals
  • Practice clarifying and questioning routines so you can turn the sustained work of learning back to students
  • Formatively assess students and plan for responsive instruction

Who Should Participate

  • Middle school or high school teachers of all subject areas who have completed at least three days of Reading Apprenticeship professional learning (or have attended both Course 1 and 2 of Reading Apprenticeship Introduction Online) and have practiced Reading Apprenticeship in their classrooms
  • Teams of two or more are highly recommended
  • Administrators or coaches are welcome to attend with teachers from their school

  • $1,000 per person

Reading Apprenticeship professional development qualifies as ESSA “Evidence-Based Professional Development” for Title I, III, V, and VII, Part A; and for Title II, Part A and B.
