Pennsylvania Teachers RAWC!

Pennsylvania educators from schools in Pittsburg to Erie, including the Shenango Area School District, Oil City Area School District, Crawford Central School District, and many more, will be wrapping up their year of Reading Apprenticeship professional learning this August at the Allegheny IU in Homestead. “Reading Apprenticeship: Writing Connections (RAWC) has been a great opportunity for teachers in our state,” says Reading Apprenticeship PA State Coordinator and facilitator Melissa Devlin. “The combination of face-to-face professional learning, online support and Teacher Leader development has enabled many of our teachers to deepen their students’ reading and writing, as well as their independent literacy and learning trajectory. We help teachers understand the importance of metacognition in the reading process so that secondary teachers feel confident helping students become expert readers of their content areas.” Over the last eight years, more than 600 PA educators have participated in Reading Apprenticeship through the support of SEED and i3 grants.

To hear more from Melissa, watch a video where she takes part in a forum, discussing her experience with Reading Apprenticeship. For even more on the impact Reading Apprenticeship has had in Pennsylvania, watch PA educator and facilitator Rob Cushman talk about harnessing the power of learning with other educators in a short video.
