Free Open-Enrollment Online Course

Reading Apprenticeship founder and co-director Ruth Schoenbach is leading a free online course starting January 26. Participants will explore the research-based Reading Apprenticeship instructional framework described in the book, Reading for Understanding.

Through video clips, readings, and practice, this course provides snapshots of a proven approach to helping readers use and master a set of powerful literacy tools that will help them enjoy and understand high-quality, complex texts in and beyond school.

This course is open to everyone, including:

  • Teachers (K–16), parents, and others supporting readers in school or at home
  • Administrators, curriculum specialists, and teacher leaders looking for research-based professional learning that will support their middle and high school students in meeting Common Core State Standards in multiple subject areas
  • Educators who have participated in Reading Apprenticeship professional learning and would like a refresher course

Reading Apprenticeship is designed to help students from middle school through community college engage and succeed in rigorous academic work. For nearly 20 years, multiple research studies, including randomized controlled trials, show Reading Apprenticeship is effective at improving teachers’ classroom practice and significantly impacting student engagement and achievement.
