Join us for an informational webinar about participation in Reading Apprenticeship North Carolina. Learn more about Reading Apprenticeship and how it can benefit your teachers and students. We will review district eligibility, grant, and research requirements as well as answer any questions you have regarding participation in this grant opportunity.

- March 22, 2023: 9:00 – 10:00am

WestEd will Provide:
- Initial assets and needs review prior to the beginning of professional learning
- For classroom teachers: two years of Reading Apprenticeship professional learning to integrate and accelerate students’ subject area learning and literacy
- In-person: 2 consecutive days Summer 2023, 1 day between December 2023 and February 2024, and 2 consecutive days Summer 2024
- Online: 6 two-hour session each year 2023-24 and 2024-25
- CEUs will be provided for participation in all professional development activities
- For teacher leaders: additional professional learning to support on-site classroom implementation
- For site leaders: professional learning to support schoolwide implementation in order to grow and sustain literacy gains
- Annual project-wide leadership meeting

Research Requirements
EIR requires grantees to conduct a rigorous, independent evaluation. SRI International will lead the evaluation. Districts must agree to:
- Provide access to individual level student data including demographic information, state English Language Arts scores, roster information
- Allow teachers and students to complete surveys as part of the independent evaluation
- Allow SRI researchers to conduct qualitative data collection including interviews and classroom observations (this will occur in a subset of districts)
Stipend Information
Stipend eligible participants include teachers who anticipate that they will independently teach at least one section of mainstream ELA, history, and science classes that enroll 5 or more 9th-10th grade students in a typical year during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years
The stipend total is $1,000 and will be distributed in summer 2023 ($500) and summer 2024 ($500).
Stipends will be sent in the form of a check from WestEd. Stipends will be pro-rated based on the amount of data collection and professional learning teachers participate in.
